33jones -- How Many Times does Gucci Mane shout Gucci! on his new album? (Statistics)
I had forgot Bowie was on the NJN in the day. Some great Hip Hop lines about him. Was Dwayne Schnitzus and his mullet on those teams? And I remember some center who played like 5+ years who never had an assist- was he on the Nets?
The center you're talking about is Yinka Dare. He didn't get his first assist until his third year (though to be fair, he did miss a ton of games due to injuries). According to wikipedia he holds the record for most consecutive games without an assist, and only had four assist in his whole career. He had a heart attack and died a few years ago, it was big news around here in Jersey.
I remember the Nuggets/Sonics series. Elway introducing the game with "Let's Get Ready to Mutumboooooo!" and then Mutumbo grabbing the ball at the buzzer and falling to the floor. I still can't stand him, but great moment nonetheless.
Rodney Rogers was great back then, I was really excited when the Nets got him a few years ago though he never did a whole lot for Jersey. They had a segment about him on Dateline about a month ago. He was in an ATV accident and can now only move the muscles above his neck. Awful things seem to consistently happen to former Nets players.
Speaking of the NBA, Commish, you should check out the excerpts that Deadspin posted today from Tim Donaghy's new book: http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/deadspin/full/~3/NTG...
Here's one quote from it, I vividly recall the game he's talking about:
"Bavetta went on to inform me that it wasn't the first time the NBA assigned him to a game for a specific purpose. He cited examples, including the 1993 playoff series when he put New Jersey guard Drazen Petrovic on the bench with quick fouls to help Cleveland beat the Nets."
I saw the Deadspin thing on ESPN. Stern is mad grimey, he and his lawyers will crush that thing. Yet, every fan knows that crap goes on. Bavetta always plays favorites it seems like.
